The Grant Writer is responsible for actively supporting the fund development and cultivation activities of CRE. The successful candidate will be able to seek out funding sources and opportunities, craft funding proposals in collaboration with CRE leadership, maintain clear organization and record keeping, and write strong funding updates and reports to funders. Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
The Grant Writer will work closely with the Co-Directors, Research Leads, and Coordinators to identify, solicit and steward gifts in support of CRE’s mission. This includes but is not limited to assisting in the annual appeal, gift solicitation, writing grants, planned giving, and strategic planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. Regular duties include the following:
- Solicit and write grant proposals and reports for federal, state, city government RFP’s as well as private foundation and corporation RFPs, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders;
- Conduct prospect research, assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations;
- Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers, ensuring prompt acknowledgment of gifts;
- Major Gift/Donor Support – Produce major donor and special category solicitations/ support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible;
- Work with program staff to develop reports and funding-related projects;
- Cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondences, preparing letters of acknowledgment, scheduling, and attending in-person visits; organize individual donor campaigns (e.g., major donors, direct mail, and matching gifts);
- Database and Records Management – Develop and maintain an online database and paper records of contributors and grants;
- Maintain grants calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports;
- Generate queries, reports, exports, and any other collection data as needed.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven track record of achieving fundraising revenue targets and/or quotas;
- Familiarity with youth development and advocacy strategies that center racial and social justice;
- A high level of computer literacy required, including Google’s document suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc);
- Proven ability to work well under pressure;
- Proven ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a timely, compelling and succinct form;
- Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively;
- Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports;
- A Bachelor’s degree, and 2 -3 years minimum of relevant experience are required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Compensation is commensurate with experience.
- Position is hourly, part-time, and reports to the Co-Directors.
